Marion Stokes Rushing, 95, of Savannah, died Wednesday, October 28, 2009 in Savannah.
Mrs. Rushing, a native of Savannah was born on June 1, 1914, the daughter of the late Thomas and Cicelia Stokes. She was a graduate of Savannah High School. She married Eugene V. Rushing, also of Savannah, and moved to New York. Mrs. Rushing and her husband lived in Flushing, NY for six years before returning home to Savannah. Upon returning to Savannah, she was employed at The Southeastern Ship Yard during WWII. Later, Mrs. Rushing was employed at WSAV Radio and Television Station where she retired in 1974. When she died, Mrs. Rushing was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer on Wilmington Island.
Mrs. Rushing was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Eugene Valentine Rushing. She is survived by her sons, Eugene V. Rushing, II of Decatur, AL and James Michael Rushing of Savannah; sister, Helen S. Remion of Tybee Island; granddaughter, Kimberly R. Smith of Hilton Head Island, SC; grandson, Eugene V. Rushing, III of Atlanta, GA; great granddaughter, Courtenay M. Rushing of Atlanta, GA; niece, Gloria R. Leonard; nephew, John B. Remion, II, both of Tybee Island; grand niece, Kathryn Williams and grand nephew, John "Sparky" Leonard.
Visitation: 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 30, 2009 at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer on Wilmington Island with Rev. Wayne Cobb officiating. Burial will follow at Bonaventure Cemetery.
